The Heliakros Twelve¶

These are the names most commonly spoken in public rites, civic ceremonies, and arena invocations.

Zephyron, Sky Sovereign - Wind, Clouds, Rulership, Oaths, Omens¶

Public Perception
Zephyron is the island’s official favor; he is the god you cite when you want your victory recognized as legitimate. In Heliakros, people don’t so much believe in Zephyron as they use his name to bandy about their importance and justify their actions, regardless of intent.

Temples & Worship
Roofless colonnades with hanging bronze ribs that sing in the wind, white marble and gold. Priests read sermons proudly and seal oath-ledgers with wax. Most rites happen at dawn if the weather is right, or at dusk during storms.

Thalasson, Binder of the Deep - Sea, Currents, Shipwrecks, Quakes, Salt Debt¶

Public Perception
To sailors and dockhands, Thalasson is not a deity of comfort but of accounting: the sea takes, the sea returns, the sea remembers. Even landlocked citizens pay a weekly tithe of salt “for the water,” just in case the coast turns tidal.

Temples & Worship
Cliff-caves opened into tide-pool labyrinths; the altar floods with the ebb and drains with the flow. Offerings of salt, wine, and hair are thrown into the pools, where they are swept away by the current.

Cthalon, Lord Under Stone - Underworld, Buried Wealth, Silence, Last Oaths, Possession, Depth¶

Public Perception
Not “evil,” just inevitable; expensive to offend. People don’t pray to Cthalon for favors; they pray to avoid being noticed. He is the ultimate checks and balances.

Temples & Worship
Low vault-temples without windows where sound seems swallowed. Clergy speak softly, as if loudness itself is disrespect. Superstitious merchants conduct business exclusively in the dark of these vaults.

Yssa, Keeper Of Vows - Marriage, Kinship, Inheritance, Civic Order, Retribution¶

Public Perception
Yssa is invoked when people want promises to latch on and never let go. She’s respected in council halls and feared in quiet households; her name is a reminder that bonds aren’t just feelings on Kalystra—they’re structure.

Temples & Worship
Vow Houses: cord-lined halls where visitors tie new knots for commitments and cut old ones only under formal witness. Altars are sealed letter-chests; clergy keep thread, wax, and an unnervingly long memory.

Helior, Uncovered Sun - Sunlight, Revelation, Prophecy, Healing, Plague Fire¶

Public Perception
Helior is adored by artists and physicians and dreaded by liars. The island treats him like a blade: necessary, brilliant, and happiest when it’s cutting away illusions you were fond of.

Temples & Worship
Mirror-gardens of polished stone and angled bronze that spill light into every corner. The faithful bring offerings that reflect—water, metal, glass—and stand under noon glare to settle disputes “where shadows can’t hide.”

Remoria, Warden Of The Border - Moon, Hunt, Beasts, Wilderness, Thresholds, Clean Mercy¶

Public Perception
Remoria belongs to edges: gates, cliff paths, midnight rooftops, the moment you decide to embark. She’s considered fair and perceptive, but not warm.

Temples & Worship
Rooftop sanctuaries and standing-stone rings that collect moonlight like pooled ink. Offerings are small and private: feathers, meat, antlers, strips of cloth or leather, or a small animal.

Athirys, Many Counsel - Strategy, Craft, Law, Learning, Disciplined War¶

Public Perception
Athirys is worshipped by planners, crafters, and anyone who hates losing for avoidable reasons. People credit her for clever victories and blame her for clever betrayals, usually without seeing the irony.

Temples & Worship
Half-library, half-armory. Entry requires mending something broken, donating something lost, or sharpening a blade. Priests teach by asking questions and recording answers; the building itself feels like a test of will and wits.

Sylor, Red Necessity - War, Courage, Panic, Duels, Blood Price¶

Public Perception
Sylor is invoked more than admitted. Fighters swear he’s always watching the Sand, no matter the political state of the isles. He bolsters the resolve of the brave and the resolve of the terrified.

Temples & Worship
Dueling courts with sand floors and no seats: no spectators, no speeches, only the act. Offerings are broken weapons hung on hooks; prayers are made through a gesture of exertion or outright bloodshed.

Aphroxa, Masked Tide - Desire, Beauty, Persuasion, Jealousy, Glamour¶

Public Perception
Aphroxa is celebrated loudly and blamed quietly. She’s called upon for love, leverage, and attention; rarely do those who seek her favor find what they expect.

Temples & Worship
Bathhouse-temples of warm pools and hanging masks. Confessions are common, names are optional, and the clergy are equal parts matchmaker, mediator, and keeper of all manner of secrets.

Ferrun, Patient Forge - Fire, Craft, Invention, Repair, Volcanic Stone¶

Public Perception
Ferrun is revered by workers and underestimated by the well-fed. He’s the god of making things that last, breaking things beyond repair, and accountability for creation.

Temples & Worship
Heat-cathedral workshops where altars are anvils and hymns are hammer strikes. Offerings are practical: material goods, instrumentation, and focused labor.

Domarra, Root Crowned - Grain, Soil, Harvest Law, Abundance, Famine, Taking¶

Public Perception
Domarra is treated as necessity, not spectacle. An offering to her is a promise to the land, and a scorned Domarra is a blighted field.

Temples & Worship
Threshing-halls and packed-earth sanctuaries; offerings are the first loaf, the first oil, the first seeds.

Logistra, Lady Of Roads And Receipts - Travel, Messages, Trade, Theft, Contracts, Shortcuts¶

Public Perception
Necessary, popular, and never fully trusted. Merchants and smugglers both leave offerings and insist they’re different sorts of people.

Temples & Worship
Waystation shrines built into arches and gatehouses. Message-walls allow notes “for the right hands.” Worship looks like a prayer to the wind and a swift step toward the horizon.

The Chthonic Court¶

Not always counted in the civic “Twelve,” but known across the isles as powers that answer regardless of official lists.

Embera, Hearth That Holds - Home, Refuge, Cooking Fire, Mercy, Small Oaths¶

Public Perception
Embera is the closest Kalystra gets to uncomplicated love. She’s invoked when people are hungry, scared, or trying not to become worse than they already are. Beloved by the meek and, yet, something deeper burns beneath the surface.

Temples & Worship
Communal kitchens that serve anyone. The altar is a long table; rites include feeding someone who cannot repay you, kindness towards a stranger, or a small act of mercy. Many leave offerings of bread, and seasonal fruits.

Thyr, Loosened Vine - Wine, Theater, Ecstasy, Liberation, Frenzy, Revel Truth¶

Public Perception
Thyr is celebrated and beloved until they're beyond tolerance. The isles celebrates them for release and catharsis, but the aftermath involves headaches and regrets.

Temples & Worship
Curtain-maze sanctuaries and amphora halls, hookahs, and drinks. Priests guide visitors through “performances” rather than sermons; you leave feeling lighter, or exposed, or both.

Korynthia, Returning Queen - Seasons, Descent, Return, Threshold Bargains, Cycles, Spring Grief¶

Public Perception
Korynthia is beloved by the young, those who have lost something, and those who have lost someone. She is sought ought during times of dramatic change. She implies nostalgia and loss.

Temples & Worship
Half-garden, half-crypt-mouth: living vines trained over sealed stone doors. Rites come always in pairs; one basket of flowers, one urn of ashes.

Outsiders¶

These names are known, but not used lightly. People treat them like storm warnings: you can ignore them, but it doesn’t change the weather.

Aloth, Hoarder Of Hours - Time, Delay, Debt Of Days, Second Chances, Endings, Anchors¶

Public Perception
Aloth is considered an antagonist of the Twelve, and on Kalystra, he is feared. However, none deny the influence he has over the mortal coil and the passage of time.

Temples & Worship
Hourglass shrines: one in every medical clinic, courthouse, and mortuary. While no rites are formally conducted, some desperate or forsaken few do worship him with rare sands, prayers, or small gifts.

Ur, Chaotic Nihil - Dissolution, Contradiction, Void Between Meanings, Unexpected Change¶

Public Perception
The chaos between where things are believed to be and where they truly are; Ur is a force of uncertainty and entropy, but also a font of all creation from the void into being.

Temples & Worship
The exceptionally few who admire Ur would never consider a formal site of worship, nor would a city allow it. Instead, his name is invoked most often in curses or desperation.

Obolar, Coin Sworn Ferryman - Safe Passage, Death Rites, Tolls, Borders, True Names¶

Public Perception
Obolar is honored and respected without emotional weight, save gratitude for the safe passage of the recently departed. He is considered a neutral force by most, save a small sect who views his craft as supremely artistic.

Temples & Worship
In every port city, there is a single black-painted boathouse shrine somewhere in the docks: perpetually swept clean, always open, always quiet. The inside contains a single bench, a bell inside a water fountain, and a basin full of coins.
