Guild of Tailors

"The Dressmakers dress you for the ceremony. We dress you for the eleven months in between."
— Senior tailor, in council

The day-to-day fashion guild. Where the Dressmakers handle ceremonial work and high-end gowns, the Tailors handle the everyday wardrobe of the upper city: tunics, robes, traveling cloaks, riding leathers, working garments for nobility. Less glamorous than the Dressmakers. More profitable.

What They Do

  • Daily fashion for nobles, ambassadors, guild masters, and well-paid functionaries
  • Working-noble wear — riding cloaks, hunting attire, day robes
  • The secret-plants trade — the guild cultivates and sells exotic plants in addition to fashion. These are the same Garden-touched flora the Birders collect from Immobilis and the Dressmakers weave into ceremonial fabric. The Tailors process them into ordinary-looking garments with quiet effects.
  • Refit and repair — many Cadwës bring last year's wardrobe to a Tailor for restyling rather than buying new

Headquarters

The Tailors have no single seat. The senior council meets at a different master atelier each session. Major ateliers are in Heaven Heights (Soma), the Dressmakers District (Var-Nokkt), and the [[Free District]] (Drakaër).

The Dressmakers Alliance

The Tailors and the Dressmakers share the Green Terrace rooftop garden in Var-Nokkt and the supply of Immobilis dream-flora from the Birders. They compete for clients while colluding on supply. The arrangement is older than living memory; nobody wants it disturbed.

Relations

  • Guild of Dressmakers — coopetitor. Sibling guild, eternal rival.
  • Guild of Birders — supplier
  • [[Guild of Tanners and Furriers]] — small leather-work guild, junior partner (not separately documented)

The new style

A Tailor master debuts a new garment cut. Within a week, three noble women who wore it have fallen ill in matching ways. The Tailor swears it's not his — but the cloth came from the Green Terrace this season.
