Canon Facts

  • The Ducal Enclave — by tradition, the current Duke's home fief is renamed after him and serves as the seat of city government.
  • Peer: Duke Duke Den Azhir himself; administered day-to-day by Steward Silent Scyrnyth.
  • Vanius the Founder originally held this fief. He died heirless and donated it to the ducal office, establishing the rolling-name tradition.
  • Annexed an island after the Great Flood of 900; in 950 a Duke built a summer residence there, breaking with tradition.

Districts

  • The Core — most luxurious district, opulent mansions
  • The Embassies — gated district with the four official embassies, ringed by guild of Goldsmiths troops
  • The Marina — lake, summer estates, market for magic gems on a rocky island
  • Heatons — largest lake island, the Ducal Summer Palace
  • The North Gate — main road from lower city; the prison; one of the Free Leagues' main HQ buildings; the "Alliance" monument (a gift of Lanever at the city's founding)

Power & Politics

  • Many "noble" families without peerages live here — descendants of Dogs of War who didn't get a fief at the founding.
  • They live beyond their means, angling for ducal favor and hoping for an office or a peerage if one comes "free" (as Trophy may soon).
  • The Duke rules through his "faithful companions" rather than blood family: Kal Rajghur, Silent Scyrnyth, and others from his Ruby-Heart days.
