Humans

The dominant race on Aarklash. They invented the alliances. They invented the wars to fight under them.

Humans came from "a distant land, beyond the seas" and quickly domesticated their environment. Their rivalries built nations; their nations chose sides. The very concept of choosing between Light and Darkness is a human innovation — the older peoples find it offensive. There are no Destiny-aligned human cultures.

Ways of Light

Meanders of Darkness

  • Ram — Drune-adjacent traditions
  • Stag — Drune nation; see at night as in broad daylight
  • ScorpionEmpire of Syharhalna (our table's New Shamir)

Appearance

All classic phenotypes — fair, brown, red-haired; light or dark complected. Average height ~1.7m, weight ~65kg (M) / ~50kg (F). Life expectancy a short 55 years. Clothing maps directly to social status; the best-dressed hold power.

Status of women varies wildly by culture — some are seen as breeders, others rival or exceed men in influence.

In Cadwallon

Most common race. Most varied. By the second generation, Cadwë identity tends to dominate over original cultural heritage. Native Cadwës mix all six cultural strains and the city's mercenary inheritance into something distinct.

Old grudges

Light vs Darkness conflicts run hot outside the city. Inside Cadwallon, they're technically suspended. Inevitably, someone breaks the truce.
