Half Moon

![[Half Moon.png]]

"Weapons are tools of ill omen; the wise keep their distance."

Concept: A relic-construct monk — seven feet of steel and brass shaped like a leonine Katari — turned patient protector and dogged investigator, ten years deep into a cold case that is also the only family he has left.

Look

A Clank built in the likeness of a great cat: leonine plates of steel and brass, a mane of hammered metal, unhurried in motion until he isn't. Etched into his back is a prayer wheel ringed by twelve brass orbs that detach and fly at his will. Nobody — least of all Half Moon — knows who built him, or why a Light-temple relic wears a Katari's face.

Background

Found eighty years ago behind a wall during renovations at a Light-aligned temple in Alahan, with no memory of what came before. He became a son to the abbot, a mascot to the order, and in time a teacher of acolytes. Eleven years ago he was sent on a long errand; he returned to a razed temple, its monks murdered or vanished, and almost no trace of who did it. He has followed that cold trail ever since, taking protection and investigation work to fund the search. He does not burn for vengeance. He needs answers.

Drives

Wants: to learn who destroyed his temple, and why.
Bond: the people he's paid to keep alive tend to become the people he won't abandon.
Flaw: patience curdles into passivity; he waits for certainty that the city will never give him.

Experiences

  • Mentor — decades of teaching acolytes; reads people the way he reads a student
  • Detective — eleven years working a trail gone cold teaches a particular kind of seeing

Connections

  • Longshadow — current contract: his uncle [[Jareth]] pays Half Moon to keep the lad alive (and ideally productive). The "good influence" to Nogzop's bad.
  • Nogzop — wary mutual respect; the imp calls him a goody-two-shoes and keeps trying to wring a little sin out of him. Half Moon would, in a scrap, absolutely want Nog at his back.
  • [[Julian]] — they've not met, but a Seraph who reads people might be one of the few who could see what Julian is hiding.

Hooks

The errand that saved him

The job that took him away the day the temple fell was not random. Someone wanted him out of the building. That someone is still alive, and the contract that summoned him eighty years late still exists in an Alahan ledger.

Why a Katari face?

The thing sealed behind a temple wall, built to look like one of Cadwallon's oldest peoples — see Katari — is a question that points at the pre-Cadwë layers, not at Alahan at all.

Build notes (GM/player)

Seraph is Ben's stated class (Splendor · Valor). Subclass and community archetype are left blank — nothing in the concept pins them (Divine Wielder vs Winged Sentinel will follow the flying-orb fighting style once chosen). Ancestry Clank is the construct mapping for "seven feet of steel and brass"; the Katari is the face he wears, not his frame. community is his stated origin in Alahan.
