Tir-Nâ-Bor

The dwarven nation of the Paths of Destiny, in the Aegis Mountains — the hands that built modern Cadwallon.

The dwarven nation of the Paths of Destiny under the Wild Boar totem, seated in the Aegis Mountains. Tir-Nâ-Bor is the nation that, more than any other, built the Cadwallon people walk through today: the dwarves gave the city its most modern districts, its steam-works, and countless innovations, and together with No-Dan-Kar they drove its technological, scientific, and industrial revolution. Their steam machines are the continental benchmark — the city's own are crude beside the engines of the Aegis dwarves. The dwarven tongue of Gheim lent Cadwë its technical vocabulary, and Tir-Nâ-Bor astronomers helped shape the Free Calendar.

Dwarves keep close to the Aegis Mountains, dwelling underground or on the plains, slow to move, sharing an instant brotherhood with their own kind and an intimate link to the earth. (Wild Boar is the nation's totem, though a dwarf raised in Akkylannie takes the Griffin culture, and a Possessed one falls to Hydra.)

Tir-Nâ-Bor is the one nation that once held a Cadwallon embassy and lost it. The PHB doesn't say when or why — only that the embassy is gone, trade and the guilds endure, and dwarven diplomats are almost always present anyway, housed by the Var-Nokkt family or in the best of the ducal-enclave hotels.

Relations

  • No-Dan-Kar — fellow Paths of Destiny; together the engine of Cadwallon's revolution.
  • Var-Nokkt — the family that hosts dwarven diplomacy and trade.
  • Mid-Nor — the Possessed dwarves of the Meanders of Darkness (Hydra culture). Their leader, the Despot, is a renegade Tir-Nâ-Bor dwarf who turned on his own kind; the Possessed walking Cadwallon's streets are themselves renegades, hunted by their people. The Tir-Nâ-Bor / Mid-Nor split is the dwarven race's great tragedy.
  • Guild of Architects & Guild of Blacksmiths — the dwarven engineering guilds.

Canon & scope

Drawn from the Cadwallon PHB. Tir-Nâ-Bor's halls, its kings (the Senex line surfaces only in the deeper Secrets/NPC material), its religion, and the reason it lost its embassy belong to the Confrontation / Rag'narok line and aren't table canon until we adopt them. What's above is the Cadwallon-facing nation: the engineers, and the lapsed embassy.
