Wolfen¶
Three meters of muscle and predatory instinct. Born of the moon-goddess Yllia and the greatest of all wolves. Carnage in their blood.
The origins of the Wolfen are lost in the mists of time. Their oral legends claim they were born from the union of Yllia, the moon-goddess, and the most powerful of all wolves. They are large, fast, and ruled by heightened predatory instinct. The law of the fittest applies from cub to elder — only a third of wolf cubs reach weaning.
Males stand around 3 meters tall, weigh around 450kg, with muscular legs that run fast and far, fang-filled mouths, and clawed hands. Females are more slender but share the same attributes, compensating with agility and speed. Life expectancy ~120 years.
The Schism¶
The race was once united under the laws of Yllia. It is now fractured by religious and cultural schisms, both Paths of Destiny but bitterly opposed:
- Yllia (Wolf culture) — the original path. Faithful to the moon-goddess. The northern packs.
- Vile-Tis (Hyena culture) — "enemy brothers" of the Yllian Wolfen. The devourer-path.
Among the youngest Wolfen, the predatory instinct sometimes warps into pure murderous impulse — the Spawning of Devastation. Some leave the wild and come to the cities to find a cure, find refuge, or find new prey.
In Cadwallon¶
Wolfen can be found in all the rural fiefs of the city — they avoid the dense urban districts because of size constraints. Some see Cadwallon's unique vegetation (the magical groves) as supernatural influence of Yllia. The Gamehead fief is Wolfen-ruled — Krenald the Howler is its Peer, with Hadrax as acting deputy. The Howlers is the main Wolfen organization in the city.
Spawning of Devastation
A young Wolfen comes to Cadwallon looking for a cure. There may not be one. What does someone do when their own blood is the disease?
