Alahan

The Lion kingdom of the Ways of Light — first of the nations to plant a flag in Cadwallon.

A human kingdom of the Ways of Light under the Lion totem, Alahan holds a distinction no other embassy power can claim: it was the first nation to open an embassy in Cadwallon, in 833, the year after the founding — the so-called Barhan embassy. Its thread runs back into the city's origin story. When the Battle of the Wall of Earth turned, it was the Alliance of Light's troops arriving to back the Dogs of War; and it was Alahan's emissaries whom Vanius famously rebuffed with "my kingdom for a ducat!" — taking the Barhan military rank of Duke rather than kneel to Alahan as a baron or insult it as a king.

The kingdom's shining capital is Kallienne, a city of legend. The word Barhan recurs wherever Alahan touches the Free City — the Barhan embassy, Barhan carpenters, the Barhan rank Vanius adopted — a people-or-place term the Cadwë use freely without ever quite pinning down.

In Cadwallon

  • Whitehaven — the Alahan embassy sits in Heaven Heights in the Soma fief, in a palace given as a gift. The ambassador, [[Brehnan of Alahan]], has held the post for over thirty years.
  • One of the four embassy tongues whose cadence shapes the structured upper-city dialect of Cadwë.
  • Guild allies — the Lions of Alahan ride in the Rag'narok alongside the Architects, Goldsmiths, Thieves, and Cartomancers.

Relations

  • Akkylannie — the other human empire of Light; together the two anchor the Light bloc inside the city.
  • Soma & [[Brehnan of Alahan]] — the embassy's host fief and its long-serving ambassador.
  • Guild of Blades / Isabeau Soma — Isabeau works diplomatic security with Brehnan at Whitehaven.
  • Vanius the Founder — rebuffed Alahan's emissaries at the founding, and took their Duke's title doing it.

Canon & scope

Drawn from the Cadwallon PHB. Alahan's internal politics, geography, monarchy, and military belong to the Confrontation / Rag'narok line and aren't table canon until we adopt them — as does the precise meaning of "Barhan," a term the PHB uses but never defines. What's above is the Cadwallon-facing Alahan: the first embassy, the founding rebuff, Whitehaven.
