Akkylannie

The Griffin empire of the Ways of Light — templars, language, and a fort on the city's doorstep.

A human empire of the Ways of Light under the Griffin totem, Akkylannie is one of the four official embassy powers and arguably the most culturally embedded of them. Cadwë grammar itself is built on Akkylannian (one of the three tongues, with Barhan and Syhar, that most shaped the language — and, the Cadwë will tell you, the easiest to learn). The city's great civic holiday is borrowed from Akkylannie too: the ducal jubilee descends from the Akkylannian tradition of marking the Empire's founding every fifty years, which Cadwallon adapted into its annual celebration of the Duke's accession. The Empire was founded by Arcavius de Sabran.

Griffin is a broad culture — one of the Cartomancers' constellations, a human totem, and even the culture dwarves take on when raised in Akkylannie — which is fitting for a multiracial empire that absorbs other peoples into its Light.

In Cadwallon

• Embassy at Cadwallon/02 City/Districts/Ogrokh/The Span in Ogrokh — one of the four official seats.
• Fort Griffin — an Akkylannian fort on a small island guarding Shipwreck Bay, the eastern sea approach. The Light's navies favor those waters precisely because the fort defends them; anyone using the route needs the garrison's leave.
• Templars — Akkylannie is the templar power of the Light, its faithful practising the disciplined structured-school magic (see Mana & Magic).
• Guild allies — the Griffins of Akkylannie ride with the Architects, Goldsmiths, and Cartomancers.

Relations

• Alahan — the other human empire of Light; together they anchor the Light bloc in the city.
• Syharhalna — the opposite pole. The PHB's favourite illustration of why Cadwallon matters: a Syhar envoy and an Akkylannian could never safely meet at home — only in the Free City.
• Fort Griffin & Shipwreck Bay — the Empire's military presence on Cadwallon's threshold.
• Guild of Cartomancers / Guild of Goldsmiths / Guild of Architects — guild allies.

Canon & scope
