Guild of Blacksmiths

"Hammer, anvil, fire. Everything else is paperwork."
— Workshop slogan

The arms and tool manufacturing guild. Less politically prominent than the Blades but the actual makers of nearly every weapon and tool the city consumes. Heavily ethnically mixed — dwarves from Tir-Nâ-Bor hold the senior craft positions; goblin innovators from No-Dan-Kar hold the experimental positions; humans and orcs do the bulk production.

What They Do

  • Weapons manufacture — swords, polearms, dwarven crossbows, goblin firearms, ogre warhammers, armor across every weight class
  • Industrial tools — forge equipment, mining gear, civic-works tools for the Architects
  • The thermo-forges — Tir-Nâ-Bor-imported heated forges in Thunder Vale that allow superior metalwork
  • Experimental works — the Shooting Range in Thunder Vale is the guild's R&D area for new firearms, siege engines, and explosive ordnance

Headquarters

  • The Welding Arc in Thunder Vale (Ogrokh) — the central guild seat. Massive forge complex spanning multiple workshops.
  • Vapordomes — goblin-built workshops scattered through Thunder Vale for experimental firearm work
  • Branch forges in Ka-Ân-Vor (Var-Nokkt) for jewelry-grade work and in The Docks for marine ironwork

The Thunder Vale Crisis

The Blacksmiths are at the center of the same dwarf-vs-goblin succession crisis that's shaking the Guild of Blades. The senior dwarven smiths who built the guild are being supplanted by goblin craftsmen since Dazomet's regency. The dwarven masters have appealed to the Tir-Nâ-Bor embassy via the Var-Nokkt family. The goblins have appealed to No-Dan-Kar via the embassy. The next move triggers a fief-level conflict.

Relations

  • Guild of Blades — primary buyer. Their fortunes rise and fall together.
  • [[Khaurik Argam]] / Ogrokh — landlord. The fief takes a fee. The fief also calls in special-order weapons.
  • Tir-Nâ-Bor embassy — strong, through the dwarven master-smiths
  • No-Dan-Kar embassy — growing, through the goblin innovators
  • Guild of Architects — operational partner for civil engineering tools

The vapordome explosion

A goblin-built vapordome went up in flames last night. Five dead, including a senior master. The dwarven smiths are publicly grieving and privately celebrating. The Duke wants the cause confirmed before he's forced to make a public statement.

The custom commission

A noble house quietly commissions a weapon with very specific, very strange specifications — a runed dagger meant to "cut through" something the buyer won't name. The senior smith refuses. A junior smith would take the contract if backed by free leaguers willing to deliver the materials.
